About Me

Rebecca L. Weber is a journalist, writing coach, and creator of Freelance Writer Bootcamp

(Rebecca finds it easier to write in the third person. Do you?)

My freelance journey began with a single pitch letter sent while I still had a day job. For nearly a dozen years, I’ve been a full-time freelance writer, covering social justice, the environment, the arts, and pretty much whatever else I get curious about. I’ve pitched and sold stories to CNN, the New York Times, Dwell, TakePart, and many other publications around the world.
Nelson Mandela
Covering the death of Nelson Mandela for USA Today and Ebony.com was the most meaningful work I’ve done.

For the 10 days up until Madiba’s funeral, I spent pretty much all my time speaking with people about the impact he had had on their lives, and quickly writing stories where I tried to communicate the intense joy and sorrow of that time.

I grew up in Boston but currently live in Cape Town, South Africa, near a colony of wild penguins.
